Participants in the SPIEF Academy and Point Junior projects joined the Energy Sector Day

On 27 January 2024, Russia Expo held the Energy Sector Day dedicated to the sectoral development agenda in Russia. Invitations to participate were extended to school pupils, university students and young professionals, including teams from the SPIEF Academy and Point Junior projects run by the Content Foundation with support from the Roscongress Foundation.

The event was intended for exchanging cutting-edge methods and knowledge in the energy sector and presenting the achievements of Russian regions, civic and political organizations, members of the business community and educational institutions in supporting and bolstering the Russian economy and society.

SPIEF Academy participants attended the plenary session called “The Russian FEC: New Development Opportunities” with Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Nikolay Shulginov, Russian Federation Minister for Energy, as the leading speakers. Together with the experts, the attendees discussed priorities in developing Russia’s fuel and energy complex, the latest achievements, and developing opportunities in each sector.

“We have been given an opportunity to showcase the results of our work, our achievements over the last 20 years. During these years, Russia’s FEC and its sections have been providing energy to the people of Russia. Both economic growth and Russia’s security depend on stable FEC operations”, Alexander Novak noted in his welcome address.

The Day’s programme also featured the Energy marathon organized by the Znanie society, where the SPIEF Academy was joined by Point Junior. The teams attended the session led by Ilya Kaeshkov, head of the “Development” discipline design project at the Gazpromneft group; Mr. Kaeshkov asked why we need hard-to-recover resources, and how science and technology help us recover them. Then, Alexey Kulapin, General Director of the Russian Energy Agency at the Russian Federation Ministry for Energy, spoke to our team about “Toward low-carbon development: how climate projects help reduce greenhouse gas emissions”. Additionally, the marathon offered its participants an opportunity to hear expert opinions from such heavyweights as Rosseti, Inter RAO, Rosatom, Zarubezhneft, RusHydro, Rosneft, En+, Novatek and others.

The Energy Sector Day was an important event promoting exchange of best practices and development of innovations, and served to consolidate the global standing of Russia’s energy companies. Moreover, it served to foster Russia’s future potential, its younger generation.
